5 Unique In-Home Date Night Ideas
Whether it’s a three-course meal at an upscale restaurant or board games at home, date nights provide quality alone time for couples. Sometimes it can be hard to think of fun or romantic ideas, especially if you don’t want to spend too much money. That’s why we’ve come up with five creative in-home date ideas to rekindle the romance without breaking the bank.
1. For the traveling type
Choose a theme of interest to both of you, then center the entire night around that theme. For instance, an Italian theme can include home-made baked ziti, some great Italian wine, gelato, and a sunset stroll. Another fun option to brighten a bad-weather day is a tropical theme. A tropical beverage in tiki mugs, and SPAM sliders are enough to create a party anywhere. Just put on Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole or some Hawaiian guitar and relax in your flip-flops, no matter the weather.
2. For the young at heart
Kids shouldn’t be the only ones having fun at slumber parties. In fact, a sleepover can be a great option for a stay-at-home date night. Spend all evening in your pajamas and make a cozy spot on the living room floor with pillows and comforters. You can even make a pillow fort! Of course, it would not be a slumber party without snacks and movies. Make some popcorn, pull out your favorite films, and cuddle up together in your newly created love nest.
3. For wine enthusiasts
A wine tasting can provide a truly relaxing and romantic evening. Instead of going to a winery, choose your personal favorites from a local store or try some recommended wines from Wine Library. At home, uncork the wine and let the tasting begin. Taste each other’s favorites, then dream together about future plans to visit wineries in a destination you have always wanted to visit.
4. For parents
Put the kids to bed early (at Grandma’s house) and have a little time together. It doesn’t matter so much what you do, just spend some time focused only on each other. Doing simple things that don’t take a lot of planning is best for harried parents. Cook grown-up food as a couple or have a fondue night. Then, head outside and watch the world go by with coffee or hot chocolate on the porch. Finish off the night with a rated R movie that you couldn’t watch with the kids.
5. For couples who have been together a long time
After cooking a meal together to start the night out right, get out your old photo albums – or shoe boxes as the case may be – and go through them. If you have physical photos, start with those. It’s always fun to look through your memories of good times and talk about what you enjoyed when the event was happening.
If your photos are digital, get a new photo frame and decide which ones to put on it. Make of ‘Best Of’ collection or pick a certain event or year to highlight. Choosing a theme will help with decisions of which to include and which to leave out.
When you're resourceful, you'll find that everything needed for a great night can be found in the comforts of your own home. Grab your partner and try these five excellent date ideas soon.
