Easy DIY Projects for Decorating a Child's Bedroom
Chalkboard Paint
This first project is probably the easiest to execute, if you can hold a paintbrush, you can do it. It’s also the most fun.
What You'll Need:
Simply choose a section of your child’s wall, tape out a square, and paint. Voila! You have an easy-to-do chalkboard that is both functional and charming. If you want to be fancier, you can hang a ledge underneath the chalkboard to hold chalk. Otherwise, a small table with a decorative bowl works just as well.
Distressed Dresser
This next project requires a bit more effort, but the results are worth it for a pop of color that will brighten any room.

What You'll Need:
- Dresser, vintage is fine, but unpainted wood is the easiest to work with
- Red ceramic dresser knobs
- Plain white ceramic knobs
- 2 small cans of paint, one deep red, one aqua
- Medium-size paint brush
- Contact paper
- Medium grade sandpaper
First, remove drawers from the dresser and unscrew and remove drawer pulls/knobs. Sand down the outside of your dresser so that you have a slightly rough surface to work on. Use the red paint to paint around where your knobs will go, along edges of drawer fronts, and in random spots on the body of the dresser. Allow to dry for a few hours. Next, paint with the aqua over the red, allowing some of the red paint to show through.
When the paint is adequately dry, you can use your sandpaper to distress the edges. Don’t be afraid to let some of the wood color show through, it gives it a nice antique effect. Line your drawers with contact paper and then attach your ceramic drawer knobs in a fun pattern.
